How to get signed to a record label?
I know it can be difficult and it doesn’t happen overnight. You need to get noticed first, to get signed or get “important” for producersss..
I have been singing locally and in cafe’s and stuff.
But can anyone give me steps (shortcut way) on how to get signed to a record label?
If you are not rich nor poor. Just normal.
I mean i have talent, money (not a lot, but enough), umm and i need to get signed to a record label??
Help & thank youuu.
A) Have someone from a record company see or hear you perform.
B) Get them to like you.
That’s really it.
record and post it on myspace and purevolume and spam the shit out of message boards to get a lot of hits, also post it on youtube, record companies have signed people solely of there myspace or pure volume or youtube page, 2nd, you have to develop a fan base, you have to be original and most important, YOU MUST RECORD A DEMO, most of the time you can mail the demo to record companies, many record labels have a certain adress you can mail it to and they will actually listen to your tape
Build your fan base and spread the word further then the next 22 galaxies.
Step 1 build your hombase
basically play live locally even if it is for free, though never pay to play. Gather contact info everywhere you play for new potential fans
Step 2 Build globally
Start with myspace then expand out from there at some point you will want to be on both sonicbids and reverbnation if you are looking at getting labels attention
Step 3 Put fans to work
At this point you should be on at least 3 different social points online, with at least 1 of them being a music related forum. Try to get your fans to help you expand onto the other 144+ music specific social networks, along with a few social bookmark sites.
Step 4 Sell songs
By now you should have at least a Demo. Head on over to createspace.com and have your songs listed on amazon.com’s mp3 sales page.
Step 5 Communicate
Learn as much about your fans and other contacts as you can without being pushy Translation get to know them. You may be surprised at who likes your music and what skills can be had just there.
Step 6 Ignore everything mentioned above and customize your music career to fit yourself. Gain 1000+ fans who will buy your music thus allowing you to make a living doing what you enjoy and forget about the record label who won’t pay you one penny until after your record has sold at least 1,000,000 copies.
Major labels are laying off the A/R reps so there goes artist improvement
Pr reps are getting the axe so there goes a good portion of the marketing
Producers like Tony Platt and Mick Glossop are looking more and more to the newer companies who do pay the artist and the artist retains all or most rights to their music. So reduced time with professional producers.
What is left to make you want to sign with a label and be in debt to them for several years?
