why are they selling vinyl records?

i was looking on a green day website and they have a special edition green day singles set. it’s basically 42 songs on 21 7″ vinyl records. but i was wondering why they still make the vinyl records if you need the old fashioned player for them.. cause most people (unless you have a record player) can’t really use them can they?
so basically can anyone explain why they charge $150 for records which most people can’t use?

Really when I think of it, it is really amazing that so many sounds can fit into an unassuming grove to produce coherent music. How do they do it? What are the physics behind that?
What I mean is how do they ‘engrave’ sound into vinyl?
